Interesting videos from Slow Food SF event - here's one on massaged persimons.

Judy Estrin, who has built several Silicon Valley companies and was the chief technology officer of Cisco Systems, says Silicon Valley is in trouble. Her new book should be interesting.

ifeviNe, which will be making its beta debut in the next few weeks via Nokia’s Beta Labs, is a mobile lifetracking application that lets users geotag every step they make - and the photos, music, and audio clips that go along with the journey.

All the blog platforms are adding social network features — Google Blogger made their announcement this week.

I keep hearing about this muscic discovery engine. I'm a big fan of Pandora, but I had fun playing with Shazam.

BB Bold vs. iPhone. Until Apple improves security — and its kill switch approach — I have no hope of getting one. It whoops the Bold. In my humble opinion, Nokia is going to have a phone that's more competitive (we work with Nokia).

Facebook launched a new product called ‘Engagement Advertisements’ that encourages members to interact with the ads by leaving comments, sharing virtual gifts, or becoming fans. I have seen a few. One said: "Andrew Foote is a fan of Visa…" (or close to that). Featured his picture. I thought it was cool, but I know Andrew works with Mastercard and I doubt he would give permission for Visa to do this with his friends. That's an issue.

The 37signals guys describe the Hollywood Launch, and I agree with the basic concept. It doesn't work for every company, however. It really only works for companies that have at least some brand equity and, thus, fans. Dell's Andrew Bowins calls this the" reverse product launch."

Twitter users have been tweeting away with anticipation today of Barack Obama's choice of a running mate. My guess is they will beat MSM to the punch — and I believe Obama wants it that way. Smart way to max out the news.

Interesting.

Apple's new blog. Let's see how this one goes.
-
Apple shuts down its first blog after only four posts and launches another — called MobileMe News. That's a better idea long term.
-
Using mobile phones to poll an audience. I love this idea.
-
Michael Gale sent me this. Touching story.

Google Inc. will help set up a two-story, 8,000 square-foot headquarters for hundreds of bloggers descending on the Democratic convention in Denver next week, and it will offer similar services at the Republican convention in September, as new media gain influence in politics. Brilliant.
-
Good study and analysis on how folks blend traditional and digital news sources. Key points: The "Integrators" represent a fairly large segment. And, the decline in print is outpacing online gains — that's really bad news for newspapers.
-
Andly Lark's comments on the importance of social media to Dell. "Social media stuff for us is much more strategic… How do you use social media to power the fundamentals of the business." Good stuff.

I've really been enjoying Pandora, the best Internet radio service. The CEO says they may shut it down. Why? Pandora is due to pay 70% of its revenue in royalties this year, a percentage far more than either conventional broadcast radio or satellite radio.

Fascinating. Before technology like this existed, we tried to replicate the good habits of the latest gold medal winners. This turns going faster into a science.

David G. has fled the scene. Apple gets a lot, but they don't seem to get social media. A periodic update would be very useful, but I guess David doesn't have the time.

In a video from Break.com, a Burger King employee couldn't be happier to be celebrating his birthday in the Burger King sink. What's more disturbing is that the store manager doesn't even flinch when she finds out he's in there.

39% of the Inc. 500 are blogging. The addition of 3.6% more Fortune 500 companies to the blogosphere pales in comparison to the addition of 20% more of the Inc. 500 companies after the same time period. Even more use social networks.

A couple yokles (sp?) from Georgia claim they found Big Foot. I think I read every book on Big Foot that existed when I was 9. This feels like a hoax. I keep wating for a Web 3.0 start-up to be launched…

Starting today you can waltz through airport security with one of these.

General Mills experienced quite a bump in traffic (almost 40 percent). I'm not sure why. Maybe it's all the discount coupons available?
