There’s An IdeaStorm At Dell
For the past couple weeks we’ve been working with Dell on a really cool project — IdeaStorm – and it really has my wheels turning because it’s a great, simple idea.
Lionel Menchaca went to the top of Techmeme tonight with his post on IdeaStorm and a new customer-generated testimonial feature in Studio Dell. You can see Michael Dell talking about both initiatives on Studio Dell.
In a nutshell, IdeaStorm is a Digg-like community site that lets Dell’s customers suggest and vote on ideas to improve the company’s products and services, as well as other areas of the business. The whole program is based on one of Michael Dell’s key beliefs: “We are at our best when we are hearing directly from our customers.”
There are already some provocative ideas on the site — the most popular idea currently is from “ootleman” who says he/she would pay a premium for a PC that comes with a clean, Vista install (e.g., no AOL, no Earthlink, etc.). I would, too, so I voted on that idea myself.
Also note the RSS feeds on the site for all ideas or by category — a river of ideas!
Dell has developed a process to assess ideas and implement the best ones. It will be interesting to see how quickly they move on some of these ideas. I am betting it will be FAST and driven by top executives.
Yahoo launched a similar site to achieve similar objectives yesterday. I think we’re going to see more companies doing this in the coming months.
