Paper Version of NY Times May No Longer Exist In 5 Years
Arthur Sulzberger, owner, chairman and publisher of The New York Times says “I really don’t know whether we’ll be printing the Times in five years, and you know what? I don’t care either.” There’s a rare interview with Sulzberger in the Israeli paper Haaretz by Eytan Avriel.
The NY Times is by far my number one news source. It’s like an addiction. I read it every day. 60 percent of the time I read the printed paper. 25 percent of the time I read it on-line. 15 percent of the time I read it on my Blackberry. I have RSS feeds of my favorite columnists (Pogue and Bruni). More and more it’s becoming a news sources I can access when I want it and on any device I want it on.
This is why I believe Sulzberger is focused on the right thing: how to best manage the transition from print to Internet.
“The Internet is a wonderful place to be, and we’re leading there,” he points out.
The Times, in fact, has doubled its online readership to 1.5 million a day to go along with its 1.1 million subscribers for the print edition. It’s also consistently one of the most linked to MSM. This makes it one of the most influential media in the world, in my view.
Mr. Sulzberger gets it.

Did you really break down the percentage of time you spend with NYTimes in each medium?!?!
I too am NYTimes addict, but do the majority of my reading online.
I think they have done a great job of constantly updating content on the website as you click on different sections of the paper and not being afraid to change it up on a regular basis.
Also a fan of Pogues, I find myself blogging about his videos a lot! They crack me up…
