Prepare For A Videocast Explosion On YouTube
YouTube quietly added a feature today that will send video on the net into hyper growth. The feature is called “Quick Capture” and it lets users record videos directly to YouTube from webcams plugged into their computers (Ars Technica broke the story).
You can get a webcam at Walmart for $20 to $40. They’re really easy to use (my 70-year-old mom set one up to talk to her grandkids in Shanghai via Skype). They don’t need any software (aside from a browser).
YouTube’s growth curve is about to get steeper.
One little catch: Quick Capture does not currently have an editor. So while it makes it easier to get video to the web, a lot of these video are going to be super raw. Get ready for some interesting entertainment.
