A New Marketing Firm Opens In Super Addictive Second Life
A foursome of prolific bloggers and podcasters — Joseph Jaffe, Neville Hobson , Shel Holtz, C.C. Chapman — are starting a “new marketing” agency called Crayon which will be based in Crayonville Island, Second Life, the virtual world. Neville’s post on Crayon was the clearest. This new company sounds a little crazy and very stimulating. I’m looking forward to checking out their new virtual digs and learning more about their plans.
Monday afternoon I took a couple clients on Second Life for a spin (their first). We spent some time visiting Adidas and Sony and other brands on Second Life. Two observation:
- Second Life is freaking addictive. 100x more addictive than the Internet. We could have spent hours exploring. Their wheels were really turning, and we brainstormed some interesting ideas.
- My second observation is this: Most of the company sites are really beautiful but even more boring. There are no people there. There are not enough things with which to play. We wanted to buy something and that was a fairly disappointing exercise.
In my view companies should spend less on their buildings and more on their visitors’ experiences. Make sure there are some cool people there — even if they are bots — to interact with your guests. Pack your SL site full of fun and interesting things to do. Sell some cool virtual stuff. Don’t just replicate real life in Second Life — that’s boring.
What’s your favorite SL site? My SL name is Bennett Benedek.
